What is a target letter?

A target letter is basically a letter that a prosecutor sends out when they’re just about finished with their investigation, giving the potential defendant the opportunity to come into grand jury to answer questions. It’s never in your best interest to go into the grand jury unprotected without any grant of immunity and answer questions about a matter under investigation.

Generally, if you’ve gotten a target letter, the grand jury has already finished their investigation by that time. They know what they’re going to do. It can only hurt you. This rule applies to anyone from everyday citizen to the president of the United States. I would give the same advice. If you get a target letter, you don’t go in.
